The Dominican Republic
The P.U.E.B.L.O Project was formed in the Dominican Republic and as such we take great pride in the work we have done at our flagship project in Arroyo Blanco.
Arroyo Blanco
The Arroyo Blanco project is a ongoing process, with sixteen houses in the plans originally and four having been completed thus far. Despite the low numbers in 2007 we worked more efficiently than we ever did before and completed a fantastic house for another happy family.
In 2008 we'll continue this plan, with a solid education shelter and communal toilets with septic tanks in place already from the summer of 2007. We hope to build another two houses in 2008 and possibly get started on some of our longer term projects there.
Short term aims:
Continue with construction of solid, reliable housing for the village families. Continue with education programme for local children in mathematics, english, geography and other areas. Continue to change attitudes of all village residents about trash and how it is wrong to throw it in the street and destroy their beautiful country.Long term aims:
Shelter for Mistreated Kids and Orphanage The community of Jamao asked us to help to raise the $50,000US they need to build a shelter and orphanage for mistreated and abandoned children. We are very motivated to help this project and will do everything in our power to help. Teacher for English If there’s somebody out there who would love to live and teach for a year here in the beautiful Dominican Republic, the children and teachers from 3 Schools in Saladillo would love to get English lessons. Ecological Septic System and Laundry Place We would love to be able to create in the centre of the village of Arroyo Blanco a laundry facility where the people could wash their clothes without having to climb down to the river and do so. An ecological septic system would further decrease their reliance on the river which they use for washing, cooking, cleaning and as a bathroom at times at the moment. Community Property We would like to buy a property in the center of the village we work in. The idea behind that is to build a place where our English teacher can work, and is also where the ecological septic system, the local laundry facility and a meeting and communication place for the campesinos would be located.Houses finished
