Make a difference...

"A poor man is not the one without a cent. A poor man is the one without a dream."

   Henry Ford

Have you ever wanted to make a difference in this world but been put off by the thought that whatever you do you can't make a real difference? Or have you ever wanted to volunteer abroad but been put off by the restrictively high prices and a niggling wonder over where all the money actually goes? Here at the PUEBLO we aim to tackle both of these worries and fulfil a dream to those who may never achieve it themselves.

How am I making a difference if I come to PUEBLO?

When you are working with PUEBLO you are working in face to face contact with the people who will have the benefit of your labour. On the construction site you may be mixing cement with the man who is going to be living in the house you are building with his wife and children. Or when building septic tanks or communal toilets you will be working in view of the people who currently have to bathe in a river that serves as both bath and bathroom. At the PUEBLO we don't believe in throwing money at a problem and expecting it to go away, we believe that we need to work together with those who are already there to help build a sustainable solution. We pay the people who live in the village when they help on the construction site a wage that is far superior to the local average and we train teenagers and adults with life skills that they can use to earn more money for them and their families such as tour guiding skills, English and numeracy.

Over the years we have built up the love and respect of the people who live in Arroyo Blanco and the children of the village prove our inspiration. Whether they are passing exams, learning English or showing their skills as future tour guides in the canyons around the village they are testament to the good work that PUEBLO and our hard working volunteers have done over the years.

How can I be sure that my money is going to help the people that need it?

PUEBLO is a registered non profit organistaion - the money that is brought in from students fees and donations goes directly to either the construction work or to the costs of actually having the student there. There is no profit for PUEBLO from you. We pay our workers, we pay for building houses and we pay the costs of the pleasure of having you here with us.
